Adventure filmmaker Stan Gaskell has been living the dream of many travel enthusiasts. He has been to some of the most remote and exotic parts of the world, capturing breathtaking footage and sharing it with the world. But behind the stunning visuals and adrenaline-pumping adventures, there are also moments of fear and danger that Stan has experienced in his line of work.
In a recent interview, Stan opened up about his job and revealed what it’s really like to travel to these remote locations for his films. He shared some of his most memorable experiences, including some sketchy moments and near-death encounters.
For Stan, the journey to becoming an adventure filmmaker started with a passion for travel and a love for storytelling. He always had a thirst for exploring new places and immersing himself in different cultures. But it wasn’t until he picked up a camera and started capturing his travels that he realized his true calling.
Since then, Stan has traveled to some of the most remote and challenging locations, from the dense jungles of the Amazon to the icy peaks of the Himalayas. But with these adventures also came some risky situations that tested his limits.
One of the most memorable moments for Stan was when he was filming a documentary in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. He and his team were deep in the jungle, surrounded by dense vegetation and unfamiliar sounds. Suddenly, they heard a loud roar, and before they knew it, a jaguar appeared out of nowhere, just a few feet away from them.
“It was a heart-stopping moment,” Stan recalls. “We were all frozen in fear, not knowing what to do. But luckily, the jaguar just passed by us and disappeared into the jungle. It was a reminder of how unpredictable nature can be, and we have to be prepared for anything.”
But that was not the only close encounter with wildlife that Stan has had. On another shoot in Africa, he found himself face to face with a charging elephant. “We were filming a herd of elephants from a safe distance, but one of them suddenly got agitated and started charging towards us. We had to quickly pack up and run to our vehicle, which was parked a few hundred meters away. It was a scary moment, but also a thrilling one,” Stan shares.
Apart from wildlife encounters, Stan has also faced some challenging situations while filming in remote locations. He recalls a time when he and his team were stranded in the middle of the desert, with no food or water, after their vehicle broke down. “We were in the middle of nowhere, with no help in sight. It was a scary situation, but we managed to stay calm and find a way out. It taught us the importance of being prepared for the unexpected,” he says.
But despite these risky moments, Stan’s love for his job and the thrill of exploring new places keeps him going. He believes that these experiences have made him a better filmmaker and have helped him grow both personally and professionally.
“Traveling to these remote parts of the world has taught me to be adaptable, patient, and resilient. It has also given me a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our planet,” Stan shares.
Through his films, Stan hopes to inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and explore the world. He believes that traveling to these remote locations not only provides a sense of adventure but also helps us understand and appreciate different cultures and ways of life.
As for the near-death experiences, Stan sees them as a reminder to always be cautious and prepared while on his adventures. “It’s important to take calculated risks, but safety should always be a top priority,” he advises.
In the end, Stan’s message to aspiring adventure filmmakers is to follow their passion and never give up on their dreams. “It’s not always an easy journey, but the rewards are worth it. So keep exploring, keep creating, and keep sharing your stories with the world,” he concludes.
Stan Gaskell’s job may seem like a dream to many, but it’s not without its challenges and risks. However, his passion for travel and storytelling has led him to some of the most incredible experiences and has inspired countless others to embark on their own adventures. So the next time you watch one of his films, remember that behind every stunning shot, there is a story of courage, determination, and a love for the unknown.
