McDonald’s has officially opened its much-hyped new spinoff restaurant, CosMc’s, in a Chicago suburb, with celebrations planned into the weekend for customers to taste test the new, vintage-inspired concept.
The restaurant’s doors opened at 6 am on Friday to a line of cars waiting to get a taste of the new menu items. CosMc’s is a “small-format, beverage-led” concept from McDonald’s, and it’s part of a “limited test”. According to the company, the restaurant was inspired by nostalgia and is designed to make customers feel like they are in out of this world.
The menu features some classic McDonald’s favorites like Egg McMuffins and M&M McFlurry, as well as some new items like the Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, Spicy Queso Sandwich, Savory Hash Brown Bites, Pretzel Bites and a charcuterie-style Snack Box. On the sweet side, customers can indulge in a blueberry lemon cookie sundae and caramel fudge brownies.
The beverage menu is an exciting mix of specialty lemonades and teas, espresso drinks, blended beverages and cold coffee. Customers can also add boba, flavored syrups, energy boosters or vitamin C shots for an extra boost.
The restaurant is based on a vintage McDonaldland mascot named CosMc, an alien character who appeared in ads in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The name and the concept behind the restaurant is a throwback to the brand’s classic roots.
So far, 10 locations are expected to open by the end of 2024, including in the Dallas Fort-Worth and San Antonio metro area. The Bolingbrook location was the first to open, and customers can expect plenty of festivities throughout the weekend.
McDonald’s is also bringing back one of its iconic collectibles, the McNugget Buddies. The friendly characters, which first appeared in Happy Meals more than 25 years ago, will be part of a new meal called the “Kerwin Frost Box” next month.
The launch of CosMc’s is a huge step forward for McDonald’s and its vintage revival. Customers can look forward to experiencing an out-of-this-world food and beverage menu, as well as some of the brand’s classic collectibles.
