After dominating the competition in the NBA’s first-ever In-Season Tournament and raising another championship banner into the rafters at Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Lakers seem to have lost their way, with the team struggling on a nightly basis no matter who the opponent is.
The Lakers have won only one game in the six they’ve played since beating the Indiana Pacers in the In-Season Tournament Championship Game in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the one win was against the lowly San Antonio Spurs, whom Los Angeles proceeded to lose to later that week and become one of only four teams to lose to Gregg Popovich’s squad so far this season.
With the Lakers struggling right now, a lot of attention and blame has been pointed at second-year head coach Darvin Ham for the team’s shortcomings, leading some to speculate whether the team might be considering a change.
If the Lakers make a change at head coach, Ham’s successor could come from his coaching staff, with Phil Handy currently the favorite to be the next head coach of the Lakers, according to Bovada via NBACentral.

Handy has been with the team even before Ham got hired, as he was part of Frank Vogel’s coaching staff that stayed on in Los Angeles and has been a favorite of the players on the squad.
Only time will tell how long the Lakers brass will wait to make a change at head coach, as this may be very premature, especially with the team recently winning the In-Season Tournament.
