In fact, Gronkowski and Alexander developed a mutual respect for each other over the years, with Gronkowski even exchanging jerseys with him after their final game against each other in 2018. “We had a great battle on the field, and it was cool to exchange jerseys with him after the game. It was a sign of respect,” Gronkowski shared.
But Alexander wasn’t the only trash-talker Gronkowski encountered in his career. He also recalled some intense trash-talking from former Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Terrell Suggs. “He was always talking smack, but he was also a great player. He was always fun to compete against,” Gronkowski said.
Despite the constant trash-talking, Gronkowski always managed to keep a positive attitude on the field. He believes that trash-talking is just a part of the game and it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. “You have to have thick skin in the NFL. Trash-talking is just part of the competition, and it’s all in good fun,” Gronkowski said.
But Gronkowski also acknowledged that trash-talking can sometimes go too far. He shared a story about a game against the Miami Dolphins where one of their players spit on him after a play. “That was definitely crossing the line. There’s no place for that in the game,” Gronkowski said.
