However, she stated that they have failed to make their rent payments since August, which has resulted in an overdue amount of $5,000 in addition to late fees. Hull revealed that she had initially filed an eviction notice in September, but the couple did not show up for the Zoom hearing on Tuesday morning.

“The sheriff has been out here a few times to serve them. For a household that makes over $350,000 a year, I am asking for pennies,” Hull stated with frustration. She also mentioned that she has been unable to gain access to the home or perform necessary maintenance, as the couple has changed the code on the garage and the lock on the front door without her knowledge.

An attorney for Henyard declined to comment on the situation when contacted by NBC Chicago. However, Hull expressed her regret over renting the property to Henyard and Woods, saying, “I don’t think the money is worth it. I would have rather rented to someone who is an honest person and works hard. As a mayor, you would think they would uphold positive citizen standards. You don’t see that with these people – they just feel like they can do whatever they want.”

The case will proceed to court on Tuesday at the Markham courthouse, where the eviction notice will be addressed. This adds to the embattled mayor’s troubles, as she is currently under federal investigation for her role as mayor in Dolton and as supervisor in Thornton Township.
