JD Vance preaches Republican unity, echoing message of RNC’s third night

Republicans Rally Behind Trump at GOP Convention

The Republican Party has united behind former President Donald Trump, showing their unwavering support for him at the GOP Convention. Amidst the recent assassination attempt on Trump, Ohio Senator JD Vance emphasized the party’s unity in his address to end the night.

In his first speech as the GOP’s vice presidential nominee, Vance shared his humble beginnings in rural Ohio and drew parallels to Trump’s success in the business world. He highlighted how their paths could merge to form a strong foundation for the upcoming campaign.

“We love this country, and we are united to win,” Vance declared. “My message to fellow Americans: Shouldn’t we be governed by a party that isn’t afraid to debate ideas and come to the best solution?”

Vance, a former US Marine and Yale Law School graduate, was elected to the Senate in November 2022. He acknowledged that his upbringing in rural Ohio could not have prepared him for the grand stage of presidential politics, but he promised to never forget his roots on the journey ahead.

“This moment is not about me. It’s about all of us, and that’s what we’re fighting for,” Vance stated. “I will be a vice president who never forgets where he came from.”

Vance praised Trump for being on the “right” side of issues such as the war in Iraq, the NAFTA trade deal, and trade deals with China. He also criticized President Joe Biden for being on the wrong side of these issues.

“In small towns like mine, jobs were sent overseas, and our children were sent to war,” Vance said, highlighting the impact of these decisions on his community.

The senator promised that the GOP would continue to fight for American citizens and push this message throughout the November elections.

Meanwhile, Biden’s campaign issued a statement characterizing Vance as “unprepared, unqualified, and willing to do anything Donald Trump demands” following his address. The campaign argued that Trump and Vance’s policies would harm healthcare, raise costs for families, and prioritize the ultra-wealthy over democracy.

Outside of Vance’s speech, other prominent Republicans also praised Trump for his response to the recent assassination attempt. Donald Trump Jr. called his father “a lion at heart” for handling the situation with bravery and composure. Texas Representative Ronny Jackson expressed his pride in having served a president who was willing to take a bullet for the country.

Emotions were high throughout the evening, especially when Gold Star families, who lost loved ones in the Kabul airport attack, were brought on stage to share their experiences.

Peter Navarro, who was released from prison on the same day for refusing to appear before the January 6 Select Committee, also fired up the crowd with his speech.

“If they can come for me, if they can come for Donald Trump, they will come for you,” Navarro warned.

The Convention will conclude on Thursday with the main event, as Trump addresses the delegates in his first major speech since the assassination attempt. UFC boss Dana White will introduce the former president, and Trump’s son Eric is also expected to speak, along with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.

The convention’s coverage will begin at 6 p.m. and can be watched on NBC Chicago’s 24/7 Streaming News channel, as well as on NBC Chicago and Telemundo Chicago’s websites and apps.

The Republican Party’s unwavering support for Trump and their strong message of unity and fighting for American citizens have been evident throughout the convention. As the November elections approach, the GOP is determined to continue their efforts to keep America great under Trump’s leadership.
