OK Go Interviews Each Other About Their First Grammy Nomination and the Use of AI in Their Music Videos
It’s been 15 years since OK Go took the world by storm with their viral music video for “Here It Goes Again,” which won them their first Grammy in 2006. Now, the band is back with another Grammy nomination for Best Music Video for their latest single “Love.” As they gear up for the big night, OK Go sat down to interview each other about their nomination, their thoughts on using AI in their music videos, and more.
Damian Kulash: Hey, Billboard, we’re OK Go and we are about to interview each other. I’ll start with Tim. Tim, how does it feel to be nominated for a Grammy again after 15 years?
Tim Nordwind: It’s an incredible feeling, Damian. We never expected to be nominated again, especially after all these years. It’s a testament to our fans and their unwavering support. We are truly grateful.
Damian: And Dan, how does it feel to be nominated for Best Music Video specifically?
Dan Konopka: It’s a huge honor, Damian. We’ve always put a lot of effort into our music videos, and to be recognized for our work in this category is truly special. We are up against some amazing artists, so just being nominated is a win for us.
Damian: Now, let’s talk about “Love.” The music video features the use of AI, which is a first for OK Go. How did the idea come about?
Andy Ross: Well, we’ve always been fascinated by technology and how it can enhance our creativity. When we were brainstorming ideas for the “Love” music video, we came across AI and thought it would be a perfect fit for the concept of the song.
Damian: And how was the experience of working with AI in the music video?
Tim: It was definitely a learning experience for us. We had to collaborate with programmers and engineers to bring our vision to life. It was challenging, but also very exciting to see the final result.
Damian: Do you think AI will play a bigger role in your future music videos?
Dan: Absolutely. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to express ourselves through our music videos. AI opens up a whole new world of possibilities for us, and we can’t wait to explore it further.
Damian: Let’s talk about your first Grammy win for “Here It Goes Again.” How did that moment feel for you as a band?
Andy: It was surreal. We never expected to win a Grammy, let alone for a music video that we filmed in our backyard. It was a huge validation for us and our creative process.
Damian: Do you feel any pressure to live up to that success with your current nomination?
Tim: Not at all. We are just grateful to be nominated again. We don’t make music videos with the intention of winning awards. We do it because we love it and we want to share our music with the world.
Damian: And finally, what can fans expect from OK Go in the future?
Dan: More music, more videos, and more creativity. We are constantly pushing ourselves to think outside the box and create something new and exciting. We can’t wait to share it with our fans.
As OK Go prepares for the 2021 Grammy Awards, it’s clear that their passion for music and creativity is as strong as ever. Their use of AI in their latest music video is a testament to their willingness to embrace new technologies and push the boundaries of what is possible in the music industry. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the future. Good luck, OK Go!
