Mike Dunleavy Jr. Reveals What Warriors Will Target In Free Agency

As the 2021 NBA offseason approaches, one of the biggest questions on every basketball fan’s mind is what the Golden State Warriors have planned for the summer. With a roster filled with star talent, including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Warriors have the potential to make some big moves to solidify their status as title contenders once again.

However, no one knows for certain which direction the Warriors will take and who they will target in free agency. In a recent interview with NBC Sports, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. shed some light on the team’s approach to the offseason and their plans for the future.

“We’ll target some players that we believe can fit in with our team and help us compete for a championship,” said Dunleavy. “We’re always looking to improve and add talent, but we also have to be strategic with our moves and be mindful of our long-term goals.”

One of the biggest challenges for the Warriors this offseason will be navigating their roster and making tough decisions on who to keep and who to let go. With Curry, Thompson, and Green all under long-term contracts, the team’s focus will be on building a supporting cast that can help them contend for championships now and in the future.

One of the key areas that the Warriors will be looking to address is their center position. With veteran big man, Andrew Bogut, retiring after the 2020-2021 season, the team will be in the market for a reliable rim protector and someone who can also contribute on the offensive end.

Among the top names on the free-agent market at center are players like Andre Drummond, Serge Ibaka, and Hassan Whiteside. While they all bring different skillsets to the table, it’s clear that the Warriors will be targeting a big who can defend, rebound, and finish inside.

In addition to addressing their center position, the Warriors will also be looking for bench depth and role players to complement their star trio. This will include finding players who can stretch the floor and hit shots from the outside, as well as defenders who can keep up with the fast-paced Warriors’ style of play.

With this in mind, it’s clear that the Warriors will be looking to make some noise in free agency and add pieces to make them even more formidable next season. However, the team is also being cautious and not rushing into any decisions that could jeopardize their long-term success.

“We have to balance our desires to win now with our long-term goals,” said Dunleavy. “We know that our star players won’t be at their peak forever, so we want to make sure we have a sustainable winning team for years to come.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Warriors’ plans for the summer, one thing is for sure – they will be a force to be reckoned with once again next season. With their star-studded roster and a savvy front office, the Warriors have all the pieces in place to continue their winning ways and make a run at another NBA championship.

Fans around the league will be eagerly watching to see which players the Warriors target in free agency and whether they can add more weapons to their already potent arsenal. And while nothing is set in stone, one thing is for sure – the Warriors are determined to make the most of the offseason and come back stronger and more determined next season.
