The process of connecting Buraco’s population, in the urban area of Mussulo, to the public electricity network is now complete

In alignment with the objectives outlined in Angola’s National Development Plan (PDN), which prioritizes universal electricity access and enhanced social conditions, the “Consignment Ceremony of the Mussulo Rural Electrification Project” took place on Friday, March 22. The event was presided over by João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water, alongside the Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, and other prominent representatives from the energy sector, provincial authorities, and invited guests.

The contract was formalized by Hélder de Jesus Adão, Chairman of ENDE’s Board of Directors, and Elisio Augusto, the main contractor from Marck Cables. This ambitious project will extend its reach to the neighborhoods of Buraco, Ponta da Barra, Pior, Cambaxi, Mussulo Centro, Macoco, Farol das Palmeirinhas, and Tapo.

With an aim to improve the living conditions of approximately 21,600 families, the project encompasses the installation of 26 transformers, 3,600 household connections, and public lighting at 950 locations. Beyond enhancing daily life, it is expected to boost tourism, support the fishing industry, and promote environmental sustainability through clean energy usage.

In his speech, Minister João Baptista Borges highlighted the significance of electrification in addressing local challenges, reiterating the directive from the President to ensure Mussulo’s access to electricity by year-end. Regarding water supply, he confirmed that a pipeline from Ramiros is set to resolve the issue soon.

Governor Manuel Homem encouraged residents to protect the newly established infrastructure and report any vandalism. Following the ceremony, officials visited the Mussulo market and medical center. The day concluded with the Governor activating the switch to illuminate public spaces, marking a significant step toward Mussulo’s development.
