The residents of Buraco, located in the urban district of Mussulo, have been successfully connected to the public electricity grid

In line with the goals outlined by the Angolan government in the National Development Plan (PDN), which seeks to provide electricity access to the entire population and improve social conditions, the “Consignment Ceremony of the Mussulo Rural Electrification Project” took place on Friday, March 22. The event was led by Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, with the Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, and other high-ranking energy sector officials, provincial government representatives, and guests in attendance.

The contract was signed by Hélder de Jesus Adão, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENDE, and Elisio Augusto, the main contractor from Marck Cables. The project will encompass the neighborhoods of Buraco, Ponta da Barra, Pior, Cambaxi, Mussulo Centro, Macoco, Farol das Palmeirinhas, and Tapo.

This initiative will benefit approximately 21,600 families and include the installation of 26 transformers, 3,600 residential connections, and 950 public lighting points, aimed at enhancing the residents’ quality of life.

It is important to note that, with the introduction of the electricity grid, favorable conditions will be created for promoting tourism, advancing the fishing industry, and reducing pollution through the use of clean energy sources.

During his address, the minister highlighted that the electrification of Mussulo will help resolve many of the issues faced by the community. He also stated that the President of the Republic has instructed that Mussulo should receive access to electricity, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Regarding water supply, João Baptista Borges assured that the issue would soon be resolved, with the installation of a pipeline from Ramiros. The Provincial Governor, Manuel Homem, urged residents to protect these public assets and report any acts of vandalism.

Following the ceremony, the officials visited the Mussulo market and the medical center. To conclude the day’s activities in Mussulo, the Governor activated the switch for the public lighting connection.
