Jerod Mayo Admits Bill Belichick Hasn’t Reached Out To Him

After 24 seasons as the head coach of the New England Patriots, the NFL world was shocked when Bill Belichick found himself without a job after the 2023 season. The legendary coach, who led the Patriots to six Super Bowl victories and numerous playoff appearances, was a staple on the sidelines for the team and had become synonymous with the franchise. Yet, after a disappointing season, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and the organization decided it was time to part ways with the future Hall of Famer.

It was a decision that sent shockwaves throughout the league and left many wondering what would happen to the Patriots without their beloved leader. As the offseason progressed, many speculated on who would take over as head coach and how the team would fare without Belichick at the helm. However, one question remained unanswered – had Belichick reached out to any of his former players or colleagues?

In an exclusive interview with The Cold Wire, former Patriots linebacker and current defensive assistant coach Jerod Mayo revealed that he had not heard from Belichick since his departure from the team. Mayo, who played under Belichick for six seasons and won a Super Bowl with him, admitted that he was surprised by the lack of communication.

“I haven’t heard from Bill since he left the Patriots,” Mayo said. “But I understand that he’s going through a lot right now, and I’m sure he’ll reach out when he’s ready. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for everything he’s done for me and this organization.”

Mayo’s response is a testament to the strong bond and respect that he shares with Belichick. Despite not hearing from his former coach, Mayo remains positive and grateful for the opportunity to have played under him.

The lack of communication from Belichick may come as a surprise to some, considering the long-standing relationship he had with his players and staff. However, it is not uncommon for coaches and players to lose touch after parting ways. In the fast-paced and competitive world of the NFL, coaches and players often move on to new teams and responsibilities, making it challenging to stay in touch.

But while Belichick may not have reached out to Mayo, the former linebacker has nothing but praise for his former coach. Mayo credits Belichick for instilling a strong work ethic and discipline in him, which has helped him in his coaching career.

“Playing under Bill was an invaluable experience for me. He taught me the importance of hard work, preparation, and discipline both on and off the field. These are values that I continue to carry with me in my coaching career,” said Mayo.

It is clear that Belichick’s influence and teachings have had a lasting impact on his players, and Mayo is just one example of this. As the Patriots move on to a new era with a new head coach, the lessons and values instilled by Belichick will continue to shape the team’s culture and success.

While Mayo may have not heard from Belichick, he remains confident that the legendary coach will find success wherever he goes next. “Bill is a phenomenal coach, and his record speaks for itself. I have no doubt that he will continue to excel in whatever he chooses to do next,” said Mayo.

It is evident that Belichick’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of his former players and colleagues, and his impact on the Patriots organization will never be forgotten. As Mayo and the rest of the Patriots move forward, they will do so with gratitude and respect for the man who led them to greatness for 24 remarkable seasons.
