Gov. Abbott says Texas will continue busing migrants to Chicago during RNC speech

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott took a strong stance against the Biden administration’s immigration policies during his speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. He declared that the state of Texas will continue busing migrants to sanctuary cities such as Chicago, until the border is secured.

This bold move comes in response to the latest figures released by the city of Chicago, which revealed that 44,874 migrants have been transported to the city since August 2022. Of those, nearly 40,000 arrived by bus and 5,000 arrived on flights at O’Hare and Midway airports.

During his RNC address, Abbott emphasized that this practice will continue until the border is secure. “We have continued busing migrants to sanctuary cities all across the country. Those buses will continue to roll until we finally secure our border,” he stated.

Illinois state officials and Chicago officials have been seeking additional funding from the U.S. government to cope with the influx of migrants. Meanwhile, New York has even gone as far as filing a lawsuit against Abbott’s administration, seeking compensation for the program.

But Abbott dismissed the lawsuit as “baseless” and openly talked about his defiance of the Biden administration’s orders. He shared that when Texas was ordered to stop installing razor wire at the border, he deployed thousands of National Guard soldiers to build hundreds of miles of barriers. “They built those barriers to stop illegal crossings. When Joe Biden ordered to cut that razor wire, I ordered the National Guard to triple the razor wire,” Abbott explained.

However, in January, the Supreme Court ruled that border agents could cut the razor wire down, with the administration arguing that it was not effective in deterring border crossings. Abbott, on the other hand, claimed that there was a “marked drop” in illegal crossings after the installation. But Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas disputed these statistics, saying that Abbott’s tools were already in effect in December and January, and could not be solely attributed to the drop in border encounters.

Despite these challenges, Abbott remains determined to secure the border once again, with the crowd at the RNC chanting “build the wall” as he finished his speech. “It is time to restore order at the border. It is time to rid our streets of crime and chaos. It is time to secure our nation by returning Donald Trump as president of the United States of America,” he declared.

Abbott’s strong stance on immigration echoes that of former President Trump, who implemented policies that greatly reduced illegal crossings at the border. With the recent surge in migrant arrivals, Abbott believes that Trump’s policies are the solution to securing the border once again.

In conclusion, Gov. Abbott’s speech at the RNC was met with resounding support from the crowd, as he boldly declared his plans to continue busing migrants to sanctuary cities until the border is secure. He remains determined to restore order and secure the nation, and believes that the return of Donald Trump as president is the key to achieving this goal. It is clear that Abbott’s unwavering stance on immigration will continue to make headlines and draw attention to this important issue.
