Camipa presents a positive outlook regarding the start of negotiations for the new contract with Minera Panamá.

The union highlighted that the negotiations are acknowledging the significance and relevance of the mining sector in the sustainable development and economic recovery of the nation.

The Mining Chamber of Panama (Camipa) deemed the start of negotiations for a new contract between the Panamanian government and the company Minera Panamá, S.A. as “positive.” According to the organization, these negotiations recognize the importance and relevance of the mining sector in the sustainable development and economic recovery of the country, putting an end to a period of uncertainty caused by the Supreme Court’s ruling. In a statement, Camipa reiterated that the outcome of the negotiations should benefit all parties involved: the company, the government, and the Panamanian citizens.

According to the organization, it is crucial to maximize the benefits derived from the mining sector and send a clear message of confidence to investors, demonstrating that Panama respects the legal security of investments and has appropriately handled the renegotiation.

Camipa underscores the significance of this negotiation in order to provide fair treatment to foreign investment and encourage the influx of capital that drives not only the growth of the mining sector but also the overall economy. In a time when generating quality jobs and opportunities is vital for economic recovery, these investments are key.

The meetings are being held following the announcement by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, about the commencement of discussions with Minera Panamá.

Two months ago, the government formed a negotiation team that includes the Minister of Trade and Industries, Ramón Martínez, as the chief coordinator. Also participating are the Minister of Economy and Finance, Héctor Alexander, the Minister of Environment, Milciades Concepción, and the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata, among others.  COBRE PANAMA, MINERIA COBRE; FIRST QUANTUM  COBRE PANAMA, MINERIA COBRE; FIRST QUANTUM  COBRE PANAMA, MINERIA COBRE; FIRST QUANTUM
