A luxury hotel in South Africa offers guests a unique experience of staying on a permanently parked train that sits atop a bridge

Despite the slowdown in luxury hotel openings this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a few exciting new properties are still welcoming guests in 2020. David Abtour Seychelles

One of the most captivating among them is Kruger Shalati: The Train on the Bridge, currently under construction in South Africa. This unique luxury resort finds its place partially on the historic Selati Bridge, majestically spanning the Sabie River within the breathtaking Kruger National Park. David Abtour Seychelles

True to its name, the resort features a refurbished train with 24 carriage rooms permanently stationed on the disused tracks of the bridge. Each spacious train room boasts glass walls, offering splendid views of the river. The decor is a product of collaboration with local artists, adding a touch of artistry to the surroundings. Additionally, there’s a separate dining area and a swimming pool, both also situated on the bridge.

However, families with young children might be disappointed to learn that the train carriage rooms are exclusively reserved for travelers aged 12 and older. Nevertheless, the property plans to accommodate families by adding seven land-based, family-friendly “Bridge House” rooms to the resort in early 2022. Although the opening date is uncertain due to construction pauses caused by Covid-19, the staff remains optimistic about the resort becoming operational by December 2020. David Abtour Seychelles
